Turn on category-wise KDS to give each screen its own food categories, so the grill, the bar and the dessert station each see only their items.
Auto assign
With auto assign on, every accepted order goes to the kitchens whose categories it contains. You can also assign kitchens and set a prepare time by hand from order details.
Dine-in and branch aware
Tickets carry the table number from Dine-in orders and can be filtered by branch when the Multi-Location extension is active.
Look back at completed orders
Filter by status or date to bring up earlier tickets when a question comes up at the pass.

You need a RestroPress website with the KDS extension (included in Professional, Business and Agency), an Android or iOS tablet for each screen and a WordPress user with the Shop Worker role for each kitchen. Connecting a screen takes a QR scan, not a printer cable.
Get setup guidance
- 01
Pair the screen with your store
In RestroPress > Settings > Kitchen Display System tick Enable API, show the QR code and scan it from the tablet you want in the kitchen. The screen is connected from that moment.

Set up your kitchens
Create a Shop Worker user for each screen and sign in on the tablet. For more than one station, enable category-wise KDS, assign food categories to each kitchen user and turn on auto assign.

Run a test ticket
Place an order on your own website and watch it land on the screen. Move it from in progress to ready and check the status in your admin before the first real service.

A few things to know.
Which plans include KDS?
KDS is included in the Professional, Business and Agency plans, so there is nothing extra to buy for the kitchen screen itself. On its own it is $13 per month or $59 per year for one site, $29 per month or $169 per year for up to 5 sites and $59 per month or $209 per year for up to 15 sites. The app is free on Google Play and the App Store and connects to your website by scanning the QR code in the extension settings. Compare the plans.
Does KDS replace my ticket printer?
It can. Orders appear on the screen the moment they are placed, so most kitchens stop printing tickets and remove one more thing that can jam mid-service. If you still want paper at the pass, the Order Tracking and desktop apps handle printing.
What should I run it on?
Any Android or iOS tablet works, and a larger Android-based display suits a busier line. Each screen signs in with a WordPress Shop Worker account. Mount it where the whole station can read it and keep it on power and Wi-Fi throughout service.
Can I look back at orders that are already done?
Yes. Filter by status or date to bring up completed tickets when a question comes up at the pass. Each order also records which kitchen completed it and the preparation time that was set.
