WHAT AUTHORIZE.NET ADDS

Payment choices for your checkout.

01

Visa, Mastercard and more

Accept every card type enabled on your Authorize.net merchant account. Customers enter their card on your checkout page; there is no redirect.

02

Charged through Authorize.net AIM

The plugin sends an authorize-and-capture request to Authorize.net's AIM API and stores the returned transaction ID on the RestroPress order.

03

Sandbox testing

Turn on RestroPress Test Mode and the same API Login ID and Transaction Key fields are used against the Authorize.net sandbox, so you can run test cards before going live.

04

Two-field configuration

Only an API Login ID and a Transaction Key are needed. Paste them in, enable the gateway, done.

05

Clear decline handling

Invalid or declined cards are turned into plain error messages and the customer is returned to checkout. An order is only created once Authorize.net approves the charge.

MAKE IT YOURS

From setup to service.

Three steps from an Authorize.net account to card payments on your restaurant checkout.

Get setup guidance
  1. 01

    Create your Authorize.net account

Sign up at authorize.net and, under Account > API Credentials & Keys, generate your API Login ID and Transaction Key. Open a sandbox account too if you want to test first.

  2. 02

    Enter credentials in RestroPress

Go to RestroPress > Settings > Payment Gateways > Authorize.net, paste the API Login ID and Transaction Key, then enable the Authorize.net gateway. It appears at checkout as Credit Card.

  3. 03

    Test, then accept payments

With RestroPress Test Mode on, charges go to the Authorize.net sandbox using the keys you entered. Switch Test Mode off with your live keys in place and customers pay by card on your site; approved orders confirm instantly.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

A few things to know.

Do I need an SSL certificate?
Yes. Card details are entered on your own checkout page and passed through your server to Authorize.net, so your website must be served over HTTPS and your hosting falls under your PCI obligations. Most hosts include a free SSL certificate.
Which cards are supported?
Authorize.net accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover and other major credit and debit cards. The exact list depends on the card types enabled in your Authorize.net merchant account.
Can I test before going live?
Yes. Turn on Test Mode in RestroPress > Settings > Payment Gateways and the plugin posts to the Authorize.net sandbox. There is one set of credential fields, so enter your sandbox account's API Login ID and Transaction Key while testing, then replace them with your live keys and turn Test Mode off.
Can I refund from RestroPress?
No. The plugin does not call Authorize.net's refund or void API. Issue the refund in your Authorize.net Merchant Interface (the transaction ID is saved on the RestroPress order), then change the order status to Refunded in RestroPress.
Is this available worldwide?
Authorize.net serves merchants in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and parts of Europe. Check authorize.net for the current country list before signing up. If your restaurant is elsewhere, RestroPress offers other free gateways such as Mollie, Braintree or Stripe.
