Two PayPal checkout paths in one extension: on-site card entry and the PayPal wallet.

WHAT PAYPAL PRO & EXPRESS ADDS

Card on your site, or the PayPal wallet.

01

On-site card payments with Pro

Customers type their Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover card on your checkout and the plugin charges it through PayPal's DoDirectPayment API. No redirect, fewer drop-offs.

02

PayPal wallet with Express

Customers are sent to PayPal, log in and approve, then return to your site to confirm. Guest card payment on PayPal's page is allowed too, so no PayPal account is required.

03

In-Context Checkout

Turn on PayPal Express In-Context Checkout and PayPal opens as a popup over your checkout instead of a full page redirect.

04

Refunds from the order screen

Set an order to Refunded, tick Refund Payment in PayPal and the plugin issues a full refund through PayPal for both Pro and Express orders.

05

Sandbox test mode

Separate Test API credentials plus RestroPress Test Mode switch both gateways to the PayPal sandbox so you can place trial orders.

06

IPN listener

Keeps Express orders in sync when PayPal later reports a payment as completed, pending (eCheck), refunded or reversed.

07

Billing address control

Choose whether the Pro card form asks for a full billing address, only zip and country, or no address fields at all.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

A few things to know.

Does PayPal Pro require SSL?
Yes. Because PayPal Pro collects card details directly on your checkout page, PayPal requires an SSL certificate on your site. Most hosts include one for free, and your site should be on HTTPS anyway for customer trust.
Which countries support PayPal Pro?
PayPal Payments Pro is only available to merchants in the US, Canada, UK and Australia. If your restaurant is elsewhere, use the PayPal Express option in this same extension, which works in every country where PayPal operates.
Does PayPal Express need SSL?
No. PayPal Express redirects the customer to PayPal to log in and confirm, so no card details touch your site. We still recommend SSL across your whole site so customers see the padlock on every page of the order.
Can I enable both options at once?
Yes. You can enable PayPal Pro and PayPal Express at the same time, and each shows as its own payment option at checkout (Credit Card and PayPal). Customers who want to type a card stay on your site, and customers who prefer their PayPal balance log in and confirm.
Can I test before going live?
Yes. Enter your sandbox credentials in the Test API Username, Test API Password and Test API Signature fields and turn on Test Mode in RestroPress > Settings > Payment Gateways. The plugin then calls the PayPal sandbox API and sends Express customers to sandbox.paypal.com. Turn Test Mode off to use the Live credentials.
Can I refund from RestroPress?
Yes. Open the order in RestroPress, change its status to Refunded, tick Refund Payment in PayPal and save. The plugin sends a full refund request to PayPal for either gateway and adds the PayPal refund transaction ID as an order note. Partial refunds have to be done in your PayPal account.
Does it use PayPal IPN?
The plugin includes an IPN listener at yoursite.com/?ipn=rpress-pp that updates PayPal Express orders when PayPal reports them completed, pending (for example eCheck), refunded or reversed. It does not send a notification URL with each payment, so paste that address as the IPN notification URL in your PayPal account profile if you want these updates. Normal payments complete without it when the customer returns to your site.
